Kid Confucius (Wikipedia) were a funk/rap/soul band hailing from Sydney, Australia. Last Straw features on their 2007 album Stripes. In contrast to the previous two posts about songs I've recently discovered, I first heard this song in 2006 watching lots of rage in a year between high school and university (rage will be a repeat offender in this blog).
My favourite song from Stripes has to be Business Man, with its fly beats, smooth vocals and priceless lyrics. Kid Confucius played an intimate gig in Perth, July 2007, that I bopped to enthusiastically in the front-row. I waited for them to drop this track until near the end of the gig, then wrote "Business Man" on my phone and showed it to the lead singer. He just laughed and shook his head.
Their first hit was the decent punching rap Words (2005) and their last hit was the rather unremarkable alternative rock song Darling, I Need Ya (2008). They split in 2010.
