From my home state of Western Australia, Karnivool (Wikipedia) could be poorly genre-typed as a progressive rock band. Themata is the title track from their breakout 2005 album of the same name. This song is the only one of Karnivool's I really knew before researching this post, and it's pumping opening riff is unparalleled, though I've come to believe that some of their other tracks are solid too.
Karnivool's second album, Sound Awake (2009), featured somewhat melodic tracks including All I Know and New Day: and some more strongly progressive rock songs such as Set Fire To The Hive:
In March, 2011 Karnivool wrote of their current gigs
"These shows will be the last of the Sound Awake era, as well as a possible pointer of things to come."The "pointer of things to come" was live recitals of new tracks, for example The Refusal: Karnivool are touring across Australia over June and July of 2012 (places and dates).
